In his series called 'On the Night Bus' he photographs people through the steamy window of the buses through the night. I took advantage of a very cold night and went out to take photos of everyone going past the bus stop. I was not too worried about the images being blurred because it added to the abstract look of the pictures.

This was my favourite image because i liked the steam of the window and the soft focus and blur it gave the whole image and the contrast it allowed with the woman's face because she was close to the window and her face was a lot more defined
Climate Change March- Extinction Rebellion
This image shows two protesters looking over the march on the bridge while sitting on top of a truck set up for people to play live music. WWW: I like this photo because i think the colours look very vibrant and striking as well as the composition being well thought out EBI: This photo could have been more aesthetically pleasing if I had either the people in the bottom of the photo's entire faces in the image or taken the photo while avoiding getting them in entirely. |
This photo shows a small child drawing with chalk onto the pavement on Waterloo Bridge during the Extinction Rebellion march while a stranger watches and smiles at the baby. WWW: The composition of this image is good because you can see the shard and the IBM building in the background and you can see it is the march because of the writing on the back of the bridge EBI: The colour palette of the photo looks quite bland to me so i think it would look better in black and white. As well as that the image would look better without the three people in the background so I will try and edit them out of the image |
This image shows a man smoking a cigarette while walking through the Extinction Rebellion march with people sitting in protest on top of Waterloo Bridge behind him. WWW: I like the fact that the image is quite busy at the bottom but there is also negative space on the top and the way the light is catching the back of the mans head makes him seem more mysterious and interesting to look at: EBI: I think this image would have been more striking if I had caught his face looking straight at the camera because the direct gaze would have drawn people in more. |
This image shows a young couple talking on the bridge during the march WWW: The composition of this image is good because you can see three different elements: the city skyline, the plants and the people at the march. I think this gives a good all round view of the march in this image. Also the body language of the two people paired with the golden lighting makes for a romantic image. EBI: I think the image may have looked better if I got her whole body in it and made the two people the more obvious subject of the photo because the composition would have been more equal. |
I first put the image in black and white and made the contrast stronger to create a more timeless look to the image so it seems it could have been taken at any period of time.

Pride
My Favourite Pictures
This image shows two people at the pride march. One is about to take a photograph as he has his camera at the ready.
WWW: I like the facial expressions captured this image as although they are wearing the rainbow crowns and are in a very happy environment their facial expressions contrast this. EBI: There seems to be something missing from this image and something makes it a lot less striking than it could potentially have been. This could be the framing, or the fact the background is quite busy, or that I didn't get close enough to he subject. Or maybe a combination of all of them. |
This image shows a woman taking a photograph of the parade while her friend waits for her while standing next to her looking the other way.
WWW: Her facial expression is quite interesting as she looks as if she is in awe of whatever she is photographing. The composition of the image is also nice because she is clearly the main subject of the image as she rises above everything else in the image and the way her arm positioning mimics the pattern of the flowers behind her along with the geometric reflection of the buildings on the glass makes for an aesthetically pleasing image. EBI: I am going to attempt to edit out the lady's arm on the far right of the image as I think it will make for a better composition of the image. I will use the clone tool for this, the same process as the editing shown in the picture of the man below. |
The Edited Image
For this image I used the clone tool in order to edit out a friend who had got into the frame. I first cropped the majority of her out of the image and then I used the clone tool to remove the remaining parts of her that were in the image. Here, in these screenshots you can see my process

Curated Street Photography
I wanted to move towards portraiture and studying the people as individuals rather than them in their environment and their interactions. To do this, I walked around my local area with a piece of white board
Edits
For these images, I thought it would be interesting, seeing as they were already designed to seem somewhat uniform as the backgrounds are all the same, to turn them all black and white to further this effect. I wondered if in making them
STREET PORTRAITS - SET UP PORTRAITS - EXPERIMENTS WITH COLOUR - EXPERIMENTS WITH MEDIA - EXPERIMEWNTS WITH COLLAGE - EXPERIMENTS WITH WATER
Link Artist: Nadav Kander
Nadav Kander is a portrait photographer, mainly specialising in the more commercial side of photography. These photographs inspired me to take portraits in this type of lighting and i wanted to create a similar look in my own shoot.
Portraiture- Shoot One
In this shoot I experimented with different lighting colours and shadows. I created the coloured lighting using a lamp and different coloured plastic bags.
Studies of the Body
Link Artist: Peter Hickley
Peter Hickley is a photographer who in his collection called 'Complex Structures' creates intricate images that show the inner workings of the body. He does this by taking close up images of parts of the body and then uses thread to stitch over it to create the illusion that the inner workings underneath are showing.

To create images reminiscent of Peter Hickley we took a photos of a fake skeleton and photoshopped it underneath a normal photo of a person. We then erased the photo on top to slowly reveal the skeleton underneath. This gives the illusion of translucent skin and allows us to see the inner workings of the body and the structure of it.

I wanted to find inspiration from different places and hopefully find a photographer or artist that is less well known and take inspiration from them. I looked on Pinterest for this kind of inspiration and I came across an image of a digital collage made by Rita Zimmerman
Collages created both digitally and manually using print outs.

Finally, you crop the image so that none of the landscape can be seen outside of the gap.
When I finished the edits I was unhappy with the outcome. I decided to make a physical version of this work to give it a more authentic look because my digital version looks too fake.
I printed out a picture of some flowers of and also of two portraits I took. I decided I wanted to only remove the actual eyes of the pictures to start with. I then took some scissors to remove the eyes of the photo and then roughed up the edges of what I had cut out .

After looking at the photos with only the eyes cut out i decided that i wanted to cut larger sections of the face and put things underneath them in order to ket them show through the holes.
After i had cut out larger sections of the picture i experimented with putting different things underneath. Here are my experiments:

After this experimentation i found i liked the look of both the flowers and the text peeping through the holes but i did rather the text because while i will still incorporate a small bit of the flowers into the image by using a piece of text it can add meaning to the image depending on what piece of writing you choose. I thought about an extract that i would like to peer through the holes of my piece and i decided on a short extract from 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I chose this extract because it beautifully and poetically describes a character's smile in a way that moves the reader but also it shows the complexity of the human character with the last sentence.
This is the extract I chose:
"It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced — or seemed to face — the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favour. It understood you just so far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey. Precisely at that point it vanished."

Portraits Development
After working in 3D and collage I wanted to experiment more with textures and different effects I could create using water. I used a different Nadav Kander image as inspiration along with a series of photographs taken by Alban Grosdidier called 'Drowning Project'
In my images I used coloured lights and a low shutter speed to create an interesting effect on the ripples of the water.
